Alcatel Hero 8

Alcatel gets a lot of things right with the One Touch Hero, including a great design, a large and vivid display, and some impressive hardware, but as expected, some corner-cutting was needed to achieve that affordable price tag.

To begin with, the new Alcatel One Touch Hero is a big device. And when we say big, we don't mean phablet-big. But big with respect to the smartphone genre. But its bigness also compliments the fact that the device has quite the premium feel to it.

The Hero 8 has (surprise, surprise) an eight-inch screen, and thankfully it’s a 1900 x 1200 panel. The tablet’s powered by an octa-core MediaTek MTK8392 SoC, gets 2GB of RAM, a 4060mAh battery, and will be available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB configurations. There’s a 5MP main camera with 2MP front-facer, infrared support for controlling your TV, and LTE connectivity.

The processor in question is a Mediatek chip, with four Cortex-A7 cores. It’s not exactly Snapdragon-level performance and has shown occasional slowdowns when you’re going through the interface. Web browsing and media playback work perfectly fine as is checking emails and going through your social networks.

For power, the Hero 8 relies on a 4,060mAh battery, which is a little on the low side for today's tablets, but it'll suffice for playing games and watching video for several hours
