Archos 97 Platinum HD

The 9.7-inch 97 Platinum HD features a super high resolution of 2,048x1,536 pixels, which is comparable to the iPad Retina display. The 97 Platinum HD, originally debuted at CES 2013, is not to be confused with the similar Archos 97 Titanium. The two tablets have identical 2,048x1,536-pixel IPS displays, but the Titanium packs a weaker punch with a 1.6GHz dual-core A9 processor, a quad-core Mali 400 MP4 GPU, and 1GB of RAM.

The 97 Platinum, weighing in at 1.4 pounds, is light, and feels good in the hand. The tablet is slim and has a silver aluminum back casing that gives it a sleek and elegant look. As for the screen, its high definition capability and amazing pixel density is excellent for viewing hi res images; the viewing angles are also great, and the colors are brilliant, with ample depth.

As the name suggests there's a 9.7-inch display present with boasts a Retina-like 2048x1536 Super HD IPS resolution, providing a bright and crisp image. This meant that Android Jelly Bean looked impressive on the 97 Titanium's screen, and Archos has not meddled with Google's platform giving you full access to the highly flexible operating system.

The Archos 97 Platinum offers much better physical connectivity than an iPad. There's a microUSB port, microSD card slot and a video output. However, these ports are finished with the style of a budget tablet rather than a high-end one.
