Toshiba’s answer to the Apple iPad is the Folio 100 with a similar high-resolution screen and some nice apps installed, but this tablet does fall well short in other areas. While editions of the Toshiba Folio 100 produced in 2011 and beyond include 3G connectivity to bring up the options to three with 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capacity also installed, few other features are outstanding or even above average.

What the user does get in the Toshiba Folio 100 is a Nvidia Tegra 2 1GHz microprocessor, a mini HDMI connection for high-definition video playback and USB 2.0 port. The decently responsive 10.1”, 1024x600 pixel touchscreen is ideal for high-definition and flash video, but while the Folio 100 supports Adobe Flash Player 10.1, DivX files cannot be played on this tablet.

And this is where the negatives begin. Video calling may be done via the 1.3-megapixel camera for video calling, but only specifically with the Wi-Fi connection and the Fring app – which seems like a waste of a good camera, especially since creating videos is impossible on the Folio 100. Worse yet, the memory of the Folio 100 is limited to 16 GB until the user further accessorizes with an SD card reader.

Finally, battery life is a bit disappointing, with a little over five hours of video viewing possible before charging. In the end, about the only users who will be truly satisfied with the Toshiba Folio 100 are those interested in video first – and preferably video only.
