ASUS Fonepad 8

After the 7-inch tablet Fonepad 7 FE375CG, Asus now offers an 8-inch version with the Fonepad 8 FE380CG as well. The Fonepad 8 uses Android 4.4.2 and has the same 1280x800 resolution as its smaller sibling. It is also powered by the identical quad-core SoC, the frugal Intel Atom Z3560 with the PowerVR G6430 GPU.

Another great thing about its design is how ASUS managed to slim down its bezel to a mere 5.06mm, which means users get more screen real-estate and better viewing angles. The 8-inch display has a 1,280 x 800 resolution and brightness of 400nits that makes it usable in any lighting condition, even under direct sunlight. Combine its brilliant display with front-facing MaxxAudio tuned speakers, this makes the device great for consuming multimedia such as music, videos and games.

Asus' ZenUI interface is visually attractive, but has its sluggish moments. For instance, the software keyboard feels laggy. It is unclear whether the processor or unoptimised software is to blame. Battery life is excellent. The Fonepad lasted about 11 hours in our video-playback battery test.

The rounded corners give it a nice look and unlike previous Fonepads, the back is flat. We found the Fonepad 8 FE380CG to be very light at just 328g. While it packs in a 5MP PixelMaster rear camera, the camera is not protruding and should be well protected even if you lay the tablet flat.
