The first thing one notices on removing the ExoPC Slate from the box is the strange contradiction in its weight and size. While just a tiny bit thicker than the Apple iPad (a difference of .02 inches separates the two), the ExoPC Slate weighs about 2.1 pounds (0.9 kilos). However, the 11.6” screen ultimately proves to be worth the extra weight, as this tablet is excellent for watching video.

The first thing one notices on actually booting up the ExoPC Slate is the proprietary user interface installed onto the device. The ExoPC UI resembles a grid of circles, each of these may be customized by the user to instant link to software or web pages. Since the software is embedded, it runs extremely quickly and smoothly. The alternative browser is Windows 7 Ultimate and this must be used at times to cover functions the ExoPC UI cannot perform.

The ExoPC Slate list of specs includes two USB ports, a SD card slot, a SIM card slot, a mini-HDMI socket and a 1.3-megapixel webcam. Atom Pinetrail processor is included. The tablet sports a storage capacity of 32 GB (or a 64 GB SSD) and 2 GB of memory. Bluetooth 2.1 is installed, and the Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator is used in processing 1080p video files.

While the ExoPC Slate may be slightly limited in some functionality, the unique UI makes it an eye-catcher and the video quality should put this tablet near the top of the list for users loving video.
