Acer Iconia Tab B1-710

For a small tablet, the Acer Iconia B1 is reasonably well powered. Its runs off a MediaTek-made ARM Cortex-A9 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM, which compares well to rivals. Inside is Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, and a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen.

The B1 has a good set of ports for a budget tablet, though, even if it's not quite as well-equipped as the Iconia A1. A 3.5mm headphone jack sits on top of the tablet and underneath you'll find a MicroUSB port for charging the device. There's also a small plastic flap concealing a microSD card slot for adding another 32GB of storage to its 16GB of internal memory.

The Acer Iconia B1 runs on a 1.2 GHz Dual Core processor with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Android Jelly Bean (4.1) is the OS version du jour and manages to keep functionality relatively smooth for most part. The 512MB RAM doesn’t quite help too much when it comes to playing games with high graphics or full HD videos.

Entry-level tablets usually do not sport useful cameras and Acer is no exception. More than a VGA sensor with 0.3 megapixels is not possible for this price. It positioned to the front and the quality is sufficient for the odd video call.

In fairness to Acer, the Iconia B1 appears to function reasonably well, but the serious screen issues would be enough to make us recommend forking out that bit extra for a Google Nexus 7 if at all possible. The Iconia B1 also misses out on a few extra features, such as GPS.
