While most technology becomes rapidly outdated, the Apple iPad tablet is still going strong in terms of both user satisfaction and performance. In fact, probably the highest compliment that can be paid is the fact that the iPad 2 could hardly improve on most features of this first version because Apple got it so correct the first time around.

The screen is a standard setter and remains among the very tops on the market. The 1024 x 768 pixel capacitive touchscreen is responsive and colorful, reduces glare excellently and provides a great display regardless of viewing angle. The bezel perfectly frames it all to give the device a minimal, aesthetic look that is much imitated, never bettered.

In terms of Apple iPad specs, included are a 802.11 b/g WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, a digital compass, accelerometer, microphone, ambient light sensor and some Apple apps including widgets for the most popular websites such as YouTube.

Perhaps the only disadvantages in the iPad are only felt to be so by non-Apple users. As with the iPhone and other devices, connectivity to outside accessories – such as pen drives for example – are non-existent. A single button serves as the functioning control for the iPad and most downloading will have to be performed online. At 1.5 pounds, the iPad is a bit on the heavy side, but not so much to be a distraction.

For Apple users looking to jump into tablet technology, there is simply no substitute for the iPad; for others, too, this device is surely one of the top choices among a still-growing field. Highly recommended for all.
