Archos 79 Platinum

Like common Archos’s tablet on its class, the 79 Platinum tablet is designed for student and home users that looking for a reliable device for daily use but did not want to breaking the bank.

Despite the lightweight and cheap yet cheerful materials, the ARCHOS 79 clocks in at 366 grams, making it heavier than the Nexus 7 from Google (290 grams), the iPad Mini (331 grams) and the Kindle Fire HDX 7 (311 grams). However, that doesn’t mean picking it and moving around is like dragging around a bag of bricks, it’s still a good weight for a tablet and it does sit well in my hands.

The 79 Platinum’s 7.9-inch screen is quite respectable. It can deliver a resolution of 1024 x 768, which, while not the highest available, is more than adequate for my old eyes. I was able to happily watch a number of movies and carry out other tasks without any discomfort when viewing the screen from front on. There was some reflection issues when viewing from the side but nothing too drastic.

The Archos 79 Platinum is a minor variant of the 80b Platinum and features a 7.85-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1,024 by 768 pixels. Under the hood we find include a quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor with a clock speed of 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage memory.
