Like the Archos 70 tablet, the Archos 101 is a thoughtfully designed device with nice features, mostly above-average against competition in the price range. It has a capacitive touchscreen that works well for video viewing and it comes complete with a kickstand built right in for this purpose.

The 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 microprocessor powers the Archos 101 with excellent results, and specs for the tablet include Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11 Wi-Fi support; webcam; ports for USB, mini USB, micro SD cards and HDMI. The micro SD can boost the already-big 8 GB of internal memory by up to 32 GB further. A few minor negatives include a lack of support for video streaming through some websites and no YouTube app, though the latter is fairly easily downloaded through the Archos online store (here provided in lieu of Android Market).

The real winner on the Archos 101, though, is the top-notch 10.1” screen. The 1024x600 pixel provides high resolution on a par with nearly any tablet up to and including the Apple iPad, and that Cortex processor runs video material cleanly and smoothly. Truly the embedded kickstand drives home the point that the Archos 101 is successfully designed for video-first users.

In summary, the Archos 101 makes for a proud addition to the company’s line of tablet PCs and most users will hardly notice a few missing apps – especially after the first viewing on that screen.
