Every manufacturer in the tablet PC world is producing devices in response to trends set by the Apple iPad. The Motorola Xoom is one of the few tablets that can truly compete in form and function. Beginning with its status as one of the first tablets to deploy the Android Honeycomb 3.0 operating system through to the 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 microprocessor, the Xoom should impress any tablet user looking for a viable alternative to the iPad.

For hardware, the Motorola Xoom includes 1 GB of RAM and 32 GB in internal memory; Bluetooth 2.1+ and 3G connectivity plus other wireless options; high-definition video tools; ports for SIM and micro SD cards; jacks for micro USB and mini HDMI; dock sensors for other add-ons; and a camera. The 10.1” capacitive touchscreen may be the best on the market and the 1280x800 resolution is higher than the iPad’s similarly-sized screen. Battery life with full video use clocks over eight hours, putting this result on the upper-end of that scale.

All these features give a bit of additional weightiness to the Motorola Xoom, which tips the scales at 1.6 pounds (0.7 kilograms), but this is a small sacrifice against the many benefits this tablet’s excellent performance in all areas provides. The Motorola Xoom is truly one of the top products out there in the world of tablet PCs.
