RAMOS W7

The Ramos W7 tablet was one of the first available worldwide from China, and it’s still one of the better such devices from that country. Somewhat reminiscent of the iPad Touch, the large capacitive touchscreen and long list of free, readily available apps are definite pluses for this tablet PC.

Not only is the 4.8” touchscreen easy to use on the Ramos W7, this tablet also gets high marks for picture quality on its 800×480 dimensions. Despite running with the Android 1.5 operating system and thus disallowing multi-touch functions, flash videos still work fine and some free apps can help enhance video downloading and uploading as well. In the OS and general speed are the bigger downsides to the Ramos W7 tablet, however. The embedded Rockchip ARM microprocessor runs at just 299 MHz, quite a low velocity for a tablet PC that may be improved with a firmware update.

Another shortcoming (and a weird one, considering the distribution in Western markets of this tablet) in the Ramos W7 was the odd decision to include a single LG 12 PIN port. While battery charger and USB ports may be connected through this port, an adapter is necessary to use headphones with this tablet.

In the end, the Ramos W7 has its ups and downs. It’s excellent WiFi technology and great look versus slow speeds and inconvenient (at least from the go) ports.
