Opening up the Kavaj Berlin immediately introduces a strong embedded magnet, a must-have to activate the sleep/wake button automatically, which also serves to keep everything closed very tightly. The interior is made of soft flannel to protect the screen and keep things light (more on this momentarily); this interior cover includes the familiar notch to set the iPad at two angles, but Kavaj Berlin’s designers have been thoughtful enough to make one of these angles ideal for use with a keyboard. In terms of carrying, the Kavaj Berlin folio is about as trim as it gets; augmented by that soft leather, it’s a joy to tote. A bit of extra weight is added by sheer dint of the material itself – leather does add some ounces, regardless of thinness – but if one’s only interested in weight, lots of plastic tablet cases are available…
