TapeGear Cork Apple iPad Sleeve

TapeGear introduced the Cork, a charming, eco-friendly case tablet sleeve of real cork material. Though iPad users would be hard pressed to find another tablet case with fewer features, the simplicity of the Cork could in fact be the best thing about it. And similar to the Evouni Envelope Case and Luckies Undercover, this particular TapeGear case also makes a perfect iPad disguise at school or the office.

The idea of using cork to make a tablet case may be a bit quirky. But it is not at all weird if done right. And that is exactly what TapeGear delivers in the Cork for iPads marked 2 and up. Merely 1 millimeter in ‘thinness’, each sheet of cork is adhered to an interior lining, which is made of what appears to be canvas material. While the non-homogenous natural pattern is eye-catching, the small sticky gaps between cork pieces may attract and capture lint and dirt, personalizing your sleeve with small mementos of your environment. Moving up, you’ll find that the top section of the sleeve’s interior is reinforced on both sides with extra layers of cork. This is a much-welcome feature that not only toughens the areas exposed to the most wear-and-tear, but also allows for seamless integration of the metal button and elastic band. This latter combination provides the closure to keep the tablet from slipping out of the case.

Overall: GOOD

Unlike the Shred, this particular TapeGear sleeve is not the most rugged protective package you can find for the price. But like the Cork will likely elicit some positive comments for its sheer organic beauty. And the eco-friendly provenance shall also reinforce the perception that this is not just a wine lover’s best case scenario.
