STM Bags Cape Google Nexus 7 (2013) Folio

The Cape is a very common folio case-style design suited for the Google Nexus 7 (2013) 2nd generation tablet. Like all STM Bags stuff, this particular case looks to impress (and pretty much succeeds) with its near flawless construction and appealing price. The Cape offers the basics in terms of function, and a bit more in regards to tablet protection. Our only concern, however, why did STM neglect to include an auto ON/OFF feature?

Editor's Rating

The Cape is the most basic folio-style case design offered by STM for the Google Nexus 7 (2nd gen) tablet. This case features a hard plastic inner shell and fold-over cover with textured surface for extra defense and grip-ability. The tablet is held ultra-secure inside the precise-fitting backer, which has all cutouts in place to ensure the device remains fully function while encased. Once the cover is fastened shut via the buckle-style loop, the Cape will protect the entire Nexus 7 tablet from bumps, scratches and the occasional accidental drop. Hands-free tablet stand support is achieved by slipping the tongue on the cover flap through the loop on the rear shell. However, the angle is so steep that you may have to set the tablet a good distance away in order to enjoy proper viewing. When flipped into typing position, the case tends to slide away a bit with each tap of the screen on smooth tabletops. And unfortunately here, the smooth, soft interior micro-suede lining doesn’t provide much traction. Other than this, we have found no other objections with STM’s Studio folio case. On the plus side, we have found that hand-holding the device while the cover is fixed in triangular stand mode is more comfortable and secure than simply gripping the tablet with the cover held flush against the back of the case. In toll, you can do a lot worse than the Cape at this price point. However, the lack of an auto ON/OFF feature in and of itself may end-up making sibling model, the Studio, a more appealing and practical choice for certain tablet owners.

Pros

  • Durable STM quality construction
  • Scratch-/water-resistant exterior
  • Free RewardTag sticker

            Overall: GOOD

While the Cape costs less than its sleeker sibling the Studio, it justifiably also looks and performs a bit weaker in every respect. But let’s not forget though that this is a budget model from a trusted source. In the end, the Cape folio is recommended a best case scenario for frugal Nexus 7 (2013) tablet owners seeking the very basic necessities in function and protection.
