US+U Swivel ProFolio Kindle Fire Rotating Folio w/ Hand Strap review
All you have to do is ask. Based on many requests to apply their iPad ideas to the Kindle Fire, US+U has answered the call by creating this compact Swivel ProFolio. The design is a bit different than the originating concept, yet still contains the brand’s trademarked, patent pending swivel technology for 360 degree tablet display rotation. And for each case sold, US+U donates a percentage to a charitable cause - no one asked them to do this, they just do so out of the goodness of their hearts.
Editor's Rating
In case of any confusion about the name or originating design, it should be made clear right from the start that this Swivel ProFolio is not a portfolio case like the one for iPad. No pocket or slots available here. The Kindle Fire design only features an elasticized hand strap on the inside cover. The hinged back panel contains the central-mounted pivot for rotating the bezel frame, which holds the Kindle Fire inside with a small Velcro flap. While Hand-held mode works fine, it’s the tablet stand that can be a little tricky. To start, the back panel is hard to fold because the case is thickly padded (which of course does have its advantages, just not for this purpose). Also, there are no groove rails on the inner cover, and the hand strap is a rather unreliable support. Portrait format does fit into the recess, but the tablet still collapses backward quite frequently. Ultimately, the feature works by the tablet supporting itself upright and the weight does hold it quite steady in landscape format. It is also fairly well grounded in portrait position if moved closer toward the edge of the cover.
The folio case measures 7.625” x 5.25” x 1”, which is beefier than some of its main competitors like the Tuff-Luv and Marware Kindle Fire cases. However, the extra bulk does result in a boosted rating for protection. In addition to standard everyday wear and tear, the polyurethane design has all the fixings to absorb the impact of accidental drops. It consists of a thick layer of padding between the leatherette exterior and suede micro-fiber design, as well as an ultra soft bezel lining. But with a hand-strap for secure grip of the tablet during interaction, and an elastic cover strap to hold onto during commutes, why be nervous about drops?
