Cooper Echo Apple iPad 4 Folio

The Cooper Echo is a low-profile, reasonably priced folio case for providing good everyday protection to the iPad 4 on the go. Beyond getting the basics right, Cooper has also built-in some extras not found on many similarly priced alternatives, including a hand-strap, dust plugs, device cooling for video-intensive users, and a unique slide-out audio-enhancement channel that directs sound towards the viewer.

Perhaps the most striking feature of the Cooper Echo is its slender, lightweight design exclusively for use with the iPad 4. So if you like traveling light, and are a pragmatist, then this low-cost folio may be a good choice. The exterior lining of the cover is made of polyurethane simulated leather, with somewhat stylized, fine, organic grains etched into the surface. Not only does it look good, but it also provides a good grip. Speaking of solid grip, the Cooper Echo features an elastic hand strap built into the backer. Any sized hand can easily slip through and achieve a comfortable and secure grip of the case. A good strong grip comes in handy here, because drop protection offered is not as good as it gets. The back is fully covered in a tough yet not too brittle black plastic tray. But for the most part, the tablet is not really well guarded against drop damage. The reason is simple: the front cover is held shut only by the weak magnets that are incorporated primarily to activate auto-sleep/wake. While they serve their primary purpose, no additional locking or tightening mechanism is offered to prevent the front cover from flinging open in the unfortunate event of a dead drop. Other than that, everyday use of this folio will be a breeze. For starters, the folding cover connects with the hand strap to create a steady tablet stand for viewing in landscape format. Cooper has also incorporated a few seldom seen bonus features, which could push the boundaries of standard folio case design. A small tray slides out a couple of inches from the speaker to direct sound toward the user. Even when closed, sound emanates just fine through a set of small holes that are cut into the tray. The Echo includes built-in rubber plugs for keeping dirt and dust out of the audio jack and lightning connector. Finally, a strategically placed set of perforations help allow the iPad 4 to stay cool during prolonged use.
